Mission Statement

Preparing People To Live Safely Every Day!

Our Logo

The GLSTC logo represents the ripple effect safety has on everyone. If you encourage someone to choose the safe way, the effect spreads and the goal of zero injuries is that much closer. Safety is everyone's responsibility.

Past to Future

The foundation for Great Lakes Safety Training Center of today was built in the mid 1950’s.  Known then as the Midland Area Safety Task Force, the name was later changed to the Midland Area Contractors’ Safety Council. The current name was established in 1995. Then, as now, the major focus is developing and communicating worksite safety best practices for all members.

The monthly membership meetings are the core method used in improving site safety; serving as a forum where all members could freely discuss safety issues.

The diversity of the over one hundred member companies provides a deep opportunity to share of safety concerns and ideas. Service, maintenance, construction, manufacturing and supplier companies; both union and merit shop, are included in our membership.  A safe site benefits everyone on it.

Keeping work sites safe is this group’s major thrust, and it was along these lines that GLSTC was created as a delivery vehicle for safety awareness training.  We began by purchasing a contractor safety orientation program from the Greater Baton Rouge (Louisiana) Industrial Manufacturers’ Association.  This 8-Hour program, with a 4-Hour annual refresher, was recognized and used nationwide.

Since this training began in February 1995, a multitude of other programs have been added to our catalog of training courses.  We continue to enhance all our programs with improvements to content based on recent legislative changes, presentation methodology and the knowledge, training and experience of our highly qualified instructors.

We offer safety training in several areas; from general safety awareness to specific courses such as: Asbestos, Defensive Driving, Hazard Communication, Working at Elevated Heights, OSHA 10 & 30 Hour Safety Training, Workplace safety.  The courses listed above are examples and not intended to list all training available.  For more information on already available classes please visit the Classes portion of our site or call if you have a training need.  We have a quick response time to serve our customers, and can easily tailor our programs to fit your specific needs.

Our goal is to provide safety educational experiences to help ensure accidents are eliminated.  Our motto is: "EDUCATION: The Key to Accident Prevention".  We encourage our members, customers and the community to challenge us by suggesting new and different ways we can assist them with meeting their safety training needs.
