The C.O.S.T. team was formed for Contractors working onsite at Dow Chemical to improve safety performance through collaboration and teamwork.  In January of 2001, the Steering Team was created to act as a Leaderhip group for the purpose of developing vision, purpose, philosophy and guidelines.

In the first year, an Implementation Plan was rolled out and membership progress tracked form improvement in the following focus areas:

  • Behavior Based Performance Training and Implementation
  • STAC Card Improvement Process
  • Owner / Empowered Manager Role Definition
  • Supervisor Empowerment / Accountability
  • New Employee Safety Training and Mentoring
  • Personal Protective Equipment Programs
  • Root Cause Accident Investigation, corrective actions completed
  • Evaluation of all OSHA Recordable Cases
  • Documentation of Housekeeping Programs
  • Signed Commitment Documents for Employees

The mission and vision have continued to develop over the 5 full years C.O.S.T. has come together and success has revealed improved safety measures, improved response time to solve safety concerns and improved partnerships to reach comprehensive solutions.
