What is a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (C.O.S.S.)?

A person in the safety and health field who coordinates the successful implementation of corporate safety and health plans, plans or conducts safety and health training, and provides support to safety and training managers.

The Certified Occupational Safety Specialist program is a unique curriculum-based certification providing accelerated learning in the essentials of safety, occupational health and OSHA training requirements. C.O.S.S. graduates also receive the OSHA certification for 10 Hour Construction and General Industry Safety Training. Additional information about the C.O.S.S. program can be found at www.coss.net. 

Designed for people working in safety and health fields, C.O.S.S. graduates coordinate the successful implementation of safety plans, coordinate and/or conduct safety and health training and provide knowledgeable support to safety personnel and managers. 

GLSTC is one of only 15 certification centers around the United States and the only one in the Northern United States.

To earn C.O.S.S. certification:

  • Complete an intense 40-hour training course which includes presentations from OSHA and other government agencies and
  • Successfully pass two hours of testing
